What advice would you give a hospital pharmacist with 1-2 years of experience wanting to apply to a industry fellowship whose also a recent grad? And who would be potential good sources to reach out to for a LOR if you've recently graduated (2017)?

Also looking into this. Current P4 but have worked in hospital as an intern throughout Pharmacy School. Preparing for midyear and really need a mentor.

Depends what kind of fellowship you’re going for. Some types make sense (as in your hospital experience will directly translate), while others are completely out of the question.

which one do you recommend?

Med info, drug safety, basically the general clinical types. Med info in particular is the first step towards becoming an MSL which is what a hospital clinical specialist would directly translate into.

Of course, a big part of what you would/wouldn’t be qualified for also depends on what portfolio the drug company has... if you have expertise in cardio but drug company X makes oncology drugs, then you don’t stand a chance (P4 students can kind of get away with knowing not a whole lot about any disease state because everyone knows they haven’t had real work experience yet, but if you’re already out of school then you should have relevant experience no excuses). So if you have subject area mastery I would start by checking out roles/fellowships for those companies first to have a better chance, because you really need to spin the value of your work experience somehow.

Thank you very much for your response. I'm interested in either a multispecialty fellowship that spans over 2 yrs or potentially a regulatory affairs one, would it be considered irrelevant with 1 year of hospital rph experience? Also, I graduated last year can I still ask 2 former clinical preceptors for lors?
