How strong is a vice chair in helping getting into residency?

Hi, I have a question which is not specific, but I am still willing to hear from those who have more experience then me. I graduated med school last year, and I am working as a postdoc. My PI is going to be the vice chair of anesthesiology. He was optimistic to put me into anesthesiology residency(at least an interview). How strong will his influence be in helping me get into residency? Any comments are welcome. Thank you.

Very, especially in a big program.

The vice chair of a program can get you a residency spot if he wants. Just all depends on how hard he wants to go to bat for you.
