Hunter Labs sells out

Gotta love this quote:

"Riedel said that, having founded Hunter Laboratories, his goal was to take client physicians away from the two national laboratories. Then, when Hunter Laboratories had grown, his next goal was to make more money by selling those same client physicians back to one of the two national labs."

Sure sounds like the founder of Hunter labs had lofty goals.

Take clients away from the big labs and then sell out to them. Guess no one wants to create a brand anymore, do quality work and take the fight to the large reference labs. The goal is just to make money. No wonder the field has become so commoditized.

Epic grab for e-cred and the doubling down by replying to own post.

Strong work.

Yes that is what you do. If you come up with a great idea for a new fast food burrito restaurant (like Chipotle), you take customers away from McDonals and have them eat at your place. Then if you are successful enough, McDonalds comes and buys you.

If you have a fresh new idea about animation (pixar), you hope to take customers away from Disney animted films. If you are take off, Disney comes and buys you and you end up with 3 billion dollars in Disney stock.

That's what you do, you sell out.

What if Nirvana didn't sell out and go with Geffen Records. They would have remained some obscure cultish grunge band like Tad or Mudhoney. Instead they sold out, became cultural icons and now Courntey Love and Francis Bean are work a quarter billion dollars, the drummer guy is also worth 200,000,000 and the faceless bass player who never did anything since Nirvana is worth 30,000,000 (figures according to celebritynetworth.com).

Seems like a lot of money for pretty mediocre music.

Then everyone needs to quit bitching about pathologists and their work being treated as commodity if the goal is just to "sell out". We deserve to be treated that way then. :(

Why bring Nirvana into this discussion? They are not the poster child for "selling out". The lead singer blew his brains out after becoming sucessful.
