Hey guys,
I'm currently a rising sophomore and I've already taken the PCAT, have pharmacy experience, and a GPA all of which would likely get me admitted to a decent pharmacy school. However, I've read so many negative posts on here about the job market, getting treated like crap, etc which has prompted me to think about other careers. I've already gotten 3 rec letters from professors and I have ECs of which almost all pertain to pharmacy. With all being said, do you guys think that switching to dentistry would be the right decision, even though it will likely cost me 2+ more years? I'm so stressed about this situation, please someone offer your insight. Thanks guys :)

If you want to be a dentist, switch to dentistry. If you don't want to be a dentist, don't. Do some shadowing.

If you want to be a pharmacist, do it. Dont let people here that have a hard time get you down. It's still a great field, and unemployment for pharmacists isn't as low as some here would have you believe. The same issues exist for dentistry and there are plenty of DONT GO INTO DENTISTRY threads here as well.

If I work hard, finish with a decent class rank, do you think there'll be a viable job opening out there for me without having to dip below $85k a year?

Do you know any pharmacists personally? Do you have any idea where you would like to settle down/live? If so, you could ask mentors who are currently working to give you an honest , thorough perspective of pharmacy as a profession, and how realistic it is to obtain a full time position post graduation.
I understand your worries though, and I do think its smart of you to do your research as to what the job market is like, before you drop 6 figures towards an educational path.
If dentistry is a field you think you may enjoy, I'd take the time to shadow some dentists and dental specialists, and see if their day to day practice interests you.
While you are at it, shadow some physicians in various specialties as well.
If job security is your concern, you owe it to yourself to scope out the current economic scene in each profession. If I were you, I wouldnt focus on the years of training. I'd make my decision based on the day-to day practice, relative loan burden, and outlook of the profession.
