Hi all,

I was hoping to get some advice for fellowship.

More and more programs are requiring step scores as part of the ERAS application. It seems like what are most important include residency performance, research, and letters of recommendation. But, does anyone know if fellowship programs even screen based off of step 1 like residency programs do? Do they employ other step screens? If anyone has heard anything on the trail, from their mentors, or from their own programs, that would be a huge help.

Thanks so much!

Not cards specific, but the fact that you matched to a top IM program shows that you clearly had an impressive upward trend on Step 2 as well as an otherwise outstanding app. You'll be fine for fellowship. Step screens tend to be a little lower (if used at all) for fellowship than in residency. And most places will look at your whole USMLE transcript vs just Step 1 (which not all residency applicants have).

Most of fellowship interview selection is based on where you go to residency, your CV, who writes your letters, and what your PD thinks of you.
Our fellowship director stated failing any USMLE exam can screen you out, but he never stated specific cut-offs for interview selection.
