Hi All,

I’m from Hungary. Got my master degree in government relations and have been working in GR for several years meantime volunteering a lot at the orphanages and kids clinics. My volunteering totally turned over my brain, I have a strong desire to change my career path and be a specialist in podiatry medicine, especially kids podiatry medicine. I would like to get my education in the States. What’s the general application procedure for foreign international students? I’ve never taken any science classes while was studying at my university, all my courses were more humanitarian based. Do you think it will be a good idea to get all necessary prerequisites at the community college in the States? And generally is there a chance to be admitted at the college without having any pre-med & science portfolio?
I will very much appreciate any help and advice!
Thanks a lot!!!

Hey,

Ifyou want acceptance first apply to podiatry schoolswhichaccept international students. secondary once you found the few your intersted in, you should look at the pre requirsite courses that you need to take. You should be going to a north american school if possible (Canada or America, although America is preferable). Then try to enroll into that american school then take the pre reqs and then review for a few months for the MCAT.

You can have any degree, BUT YOU MUST have the pre reqs done in orderto be considered in addition to taking the MCAT.

This would take a few years (actually more if you consider immigration) and be very costly toyou, so make sureyou have the resources to accomplish this and are truly inetersted in a degree in Podiatric Medicine.

BTW there are typos in my post and I am aware of them lol

Thank you very much for you reply!
Do you know is it important where you take the pre-requisites? Will it be community college level or university level? Does it play any role? Or the most important part is to pass the MCAT with a good score and have a good grade at main classes and it doesn't make any difference where you took the pre-requisites?
Thanks!!!!

yes, it does matter where you go, as there is a slight bias against community colleges. it is better to do your pre reqs at a university in USA

Both parts are very important

so ya hope you can find an undergrad university that you will like in USA, and don't forget to tell us your decision if you would go for it, because its VERY expensive for international students (tuition is higher) as you will also need to pay for housing and etc (if you have a family then it will be even more costly)

so even if you do become a podiatrist, it will take a little longer than most for you to pay your loans

Many schools provide post bac program. You can take it for pre-req.

And then you can take MCAT or DAT for admission test.

I took all my prerequisites at a university abroad and it made no difference at all. Don't think you HAVE to take any courses in the US to be eligible for matriculation. The important thing is that you have the prerequisites and the MCAT under your belt.

Your other option, especially if you plan on staying in Europe to practice, is the Podiatry school in Australia. I have no idea what the admissions/prerequisites are, but it is an option.

I've been through the American immigration system, so if you have any questions, let me know.
