I was planning on just getting an iPad pro for lectures, google slides/sheets for presentations, and work off of my home PC for all the rest. Do you guys think this is sufficient for M1/2, or is a laptop still necessary?

Some people do everything solely on their iPad

At some schools exams on laptops I think

True, but some do it 100% on ipads. My friend’s school does exams on laptops, but the school provided those to students.

some schools will make you purchase a laptop, school dependent. a 600$ laptop is a small investment, but wait to purchase because specific schools make recommend certain laptops.

Same situation. Schools I have been to are split on whether iPad can be used for tests or not. The ones that can use the iPad for tests actually provide you with an iPad. You also might want to look at getting the iPad 2017/2018 for taking notes and making slides.
