The primarcy effect is often impaired in Alzheimer’s disease and I believe in schizophrenia. The primacy effect is meant to be caused by the subject rehearsing the first few list items in a loop, in schizophrenia though the theory is that subjects do not do this. Is this ever the case in the standard population, possibly a person implementing a different strategy?

While this effect can didiscriminate groups, it is not useful to look at in isolation in individual evaluations for diagnostic purposes as it is not all that specific. So yes, we see primacy effects in many non AD individuals.

Do you mean to say reduced primacy effect?
