is it true that dentists, on the average, tend to be isolated from their peers? if true, that is the one thing i don't like about dentistry.

Its kind of true. I work with a great staff - but when my partner is not there - I find it kind of boring/lonely. Its great to work with someone else who can appreciate the work you do.

No more than any physician who works in an outpatient clinic. Just like those physicians, dentists may choose to work with others or work alone.

The practice is much more isolated than if you were on hospital staff, but that isn't a feature that is limited to dentistry.
