Hi, I am a non-traditional student with 3.4oGPA 3.3sGPA with 24AA24TS17PAT.
Been out of school for a while, and have about 200 hours of voluteering and 100 hours of shadowing. Had some hiccups during undergrad, which is why I have not-so-stellar GPA, even though it's not the worst I've seen here on SDN.

I am currently in Northern Virginia area.
My top choice would be my state school, which is VCU.
My second choice would be Maryland.

What other schools should I apply to?
I know I have to look at stats like GPA and DAT, but there are other factors like OOS friendliness, etc, etc.

I am trying to apply to 10~15 schools.

As long as my chance is not too low, I am willing to relocate as well.
Please help me get started with the list.

My app is ready, I just need to pick schools and submit!

below is my list of schools I currently have on my ADEA AADSAS application.

Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health (AZ) - will remove

Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine-Arizona (MWU)

Don't know if you've checked out this thread, but it's really helpful for narrowing down schools in terms of which are OOS friendly/unfriendly, which require a huge amount of volunteer hours, stuff like that. Once you get that list compiled (20-25 schools), use to ADEA guide to check out which schools interest you. It all depends on what's important to you - location, cost, clinical strength, etc.

What is desperately needed on SDN is a Cyrano de Bergerac.

Can't say I would recommend applying to UNC. Your DAT is great, but GPA is below average and they hardly accept any OOS

Any more schools? I'd like to have at least 10~15 schools before I e-submit.
In the meantime, I will check the post you provided, thedanger

thanks everyone!

With your good GPA, good ECs, and high DAT, I wouldn't worry about it. Your list looks good.

I think ASDOH requires one LOR from a community service supervisor, so just make sure you have that. I'm also not sure how many OOS OSU accepts.

Thanks, I think I might just remove that from the list. I read from a thread that with decent amount of volunteering, I might have a chance to get in, but I don't think I can get a letter like the one you mentioned.

okay, I saw BUF on the "school decision help" thread and on this thread as well, but looking at ADEA office guide to dental school admission,
in 2013, there were 90 seats and only about 20 were OOS / international.

Should I still consider this school OOS friendly? or should i remove it?

Thanks.

Help me with this short list whether I should add or not.
Also, whether to remove OSU from my list or not.
Thanks in advance.

LECOM? (100 seats, 44 in state, 56 OOS)
midwestern university college of dental medicine?Illinois? (130 seats, 48 instate, 76OOS, 5 international)
Univesity of louisville ? (120 seats, 42 instate, 70 OOS)
University of Missouri? (42 seats, 9 instate, 33OOS)
Creighton (85 seats, 11 instate, 71 OOS, 3 international) -------> this seems pretty heavily OOS-friendly.
Marquette (100 seats, 50 instate, 49 OOS)??

Ohio state university - (110 seats, 95 instate, 15OOS) - seems pretty much in-state friendly. Should I remove from my list?

Would you go to any of these schools if they accepted you?

Hell mostly yes. I am a nontrad student, so I do not want to waste another year out of school, so if I get in, I am going!

As a fellow nontrad, I concur. I will go anywhere I'm accepted.

So there you have your answer. Add those to your list; you don't need us to tell you that! :)
