The respiratory chain electron carreier ubiquinone can accept electrons not only from NADH, but also from a krebs cycle intermediate called succinate. The presence of succinate in the mitochondrial matrix will:
A. lead to an increase in the number of H+ ions that are transported from the mitochondrial matrix to the intermembrane space
C. have no effect on the amount of ATP produced.
Answer: A
I put C b/c I thought that the krebs cyce takes place in the matrix of the mitochondria and therefore succinate should naturally be in there?
