Even late fall is a bit early... We didn't see much stuff from 2010 until around Jan-Feb or later if I do recall. I might be wrong.

And to think people still act like having a 3.0/22 will get you into a DO school. The numbers are certainly higher than I ever expected.

Interesting; numbers match the gist of what I've heard for ALL MD applicants, and are not too far off from the avgs for MD matriculants (3.6/32); certainly some schools, like CCOM can go tot-to-toe with some MD schools in terms of avg numbers.

We are definitely seeing DO programs becoming more competitive, even with the opening of new schools.

I think a safe zone is probably around above 3.3 with above a 28 MCAT. Not to mention DO shadowing and a LOR is a HUGEEEE help that could probably make a difference.

Anybody know if there's any information about standard deviations for these schools? Just realized that a bunch of schools I selected have higher MCAT averages than I realized. I got a 25, so not sure if those schools with averages of 28/29 are reaches are not.

Regardless if they are more competitive these days, most DO schools still don't come close to nearly all MD schools in available resources.(research,rotations,etc.)
Admitting people with higher mcat score + higher gpa's entering med school may churn out better students to represent schools and in turn gain access to better rotation sites. But I don't see that happening anytime soon because most good hospitals are locked up in MD contracts. Still a good thing I guess though.
