Letter of Intent Format??

I am on the hold list at Penn State and would like to send out a LOI just to keep up with all of the other applicants doing it. I'm not delusional thinking it will help but it sure can't hurt at this point I'd just like to know how to format it and what to include...if anyone can help id appreciate it.
