I have seen that many dental schools like to see a recommendation from a dentist for the application. My brother is a dentist and I plan on doing a lot of shadowing and volunteer hours with him. Would be be frowned upon to have a recommendation letter from a family member? Should I also shadow another dentist for recommendation purposes?

I've always heard that it's very frowned upon. :( However, if he somehow has a different last name than you do and never mentions that he's your brother, it could possibly work. If I were in your situation, I would definitely start shadowing a different dentist to get a letter a rec from them!

Take a wild guess at this.

Would a dentist cousin fall under the same lines of being looked down upon because they are related?
