I thought this was worth a go. I am a GP working in Bristol. My husband and I are driving overland to Cape Town in October 2005. We plan to spend 2-3 weeks exploring Libya but do not wish to do this as part of a tour group or with a guide. The only way to get a Libyan visa is via a tour group or though an invitation by a Libyan national living in Libya. We are keen to visit the country and see all it has to offer but have read varying accounts on the web from travelers who have been very unlucky with their "guides".
We have spoken to the Libyan Embassy in London. The national in Libya needs to pass on our details to the immigration authorities and they will fax London and arrange the visa. We can then travel independently. We will pay for any expenses.
Please contact me if you can help.
Thanks
Claire
