I'm retaking the MCAT ... first time around I did a TPR course and recall my instructors providing a formula for estimating passage time (X minutes per passage + Y minutes per question; timing differed between BS/PS and VR). Unfortunately my notes/books were lost when I moved overseas for work and I'm starting from scratch (EK/Kaplan/AAMC practice tests).

Anyone recall what the formula is? It would help me determine timing for self-made "mini MCATs."

Thanks so much!

You know what works great, IMHO, is just take 60 mins and divide by the # of passages for VR, and then round down to the nearest minute. I.e. 8 minutes per passage in VR.

For BS and PS passages, 7 minutes a passage is a good number. That leaves 21 minutes for discreets.

You don't need to use a "formula". Just use less time than you have, and practice with it.

Uh...some people I know would recommend 30 seconds or less for PS passages.
