I am a medical lab scientist and will be applying 2015. Two of our current medical directors are former med techs. Another hospital I did rotations at had an MLS to MD and also an MLS to Clinical Microbiologist.

Do you think you've made the right decision being a Mt?

Obviously this would be very situational. In my case absolutely, as I am a first generation college grad and was raised by a single mother who had to put 4 kids through college. Having a job with earning power out of college was a must. The school I got into required all of the pre med courses as well so it made sense. The experience has been a blessing in many ways and I think it makes me a much stronger applicant. However, if money is not a primary concern and time is of the essence, go bio med and get it done. I think I needed time, exposure to medicine, and a window to make some significant money before I could apply.

Are you a generalist? And kuddos to your maw. We are on the same boat so I respect your maw for that!

My mom is the GOAT absolute saint. I work in a reference lab now doing Immunohematology or blood bank.

Lol nice! I'm a generalist hahahaha. How helpful do you think our background gonna be when it comes to applying to med school?

Also I passed the board by intentionally failing the first few questions of bb so they would slam me with bb questions hahahaha. Bb and hem are my strong areas.

I think it helps anyone to have real work experience and especially if it involves clinical exposure. I don't think it matters however if the rest of your application is weak...so maybe it might be a slight edge it's def not the norm.

Hahahah exactly why I went into this in the first place. You see the dirty laundry of the hospital and learn how to communicate with the staff, clinicians, providers. Also learn how to order tests efficiently and effectively.

Hello guys I'm a lebanese student , currently senior year of highschool and I'm finalizing my decision for my major . So I'm interested in MLS , and I would like some help from you guys just please tell me everything you know about this major and advices , I'm gonna be studying at an American University just for the record i will leave some questions too .

1) Is it enjoyable ?
2) Will I have a social life or will I be buried under my books all my semesters ?
3) I really don't want a demanding job , just a sustainable one , the lebanese high school system is very hard , just junior year made me suffer so much because we really have to study like hell , so Im looking for a relaxing major , because i really had enough , what can you say about MLS in this case ?
4) I'm very good in chemistry good enough in biology , very well in physics and not bad at all with maths , just to give you an idea . My current highschool average is 12-13 ( reminder , lebanese system is harsh as hell and my school is very strict and demanding)

All other information is highly appreciated
