HIV/AIDS threatens the future of our country and the world. There is a great need for us to act now. The devastating effects of AIDS is particularly tragic in children who are affected. Every minute one child loses a parent to HIV. These orphans receive less education, earn less salary, and grow up without the guidance of a parent. Also, twelve children die of AIDS every day--90% of them were born with the disease. On a larger level, HIV affects the economics, healthcare and future of countries.
This isn't only a problem overseas. In the USA and around the world greater than half of all new infections occur in individuals younger than 25. Without adequate prevention, HIV presents a threat to the world as we know it.
But we can also paint a more positive picture. Almost every single infection of HIV can be prevented. This provides Medwiser with an amazing opportunity and great responsibility.
Medwiser aims to leverage the Internet and technology to
1) provide educational media to change behavior &
2) create an online social network, like Facebook, that empowers individuals from around the world to support and educate others who are at threat of acquiring HIV.

Medwiser will inspire volunteerism and motivate change around the world. We will be connecting individuals from around the world to ACT UP AND FIGHT AIDS! We will educate & let individuals in desperate situations know that they CAN stay free from HIV.

HIV/AIDS is largely (at least 99.999%) a disease of stupidity in the industrialized world now. We know exactly how it is transmitted, risk factors, etc... Anyone that gets it now, outside of a needle stick accident/occupational exposure, is most likely a *****. As far as outside of the industrialized world, we have enough problem to work on in our own country without concerning ourselves with other regions problems. Let them deal with it, they will either sink or swim.

Damn. I read the title and thought this would be some med student beer drinking game.

I am very disappointed.

Dude...tons of people get HIV by having unprotected sex with a small number of monogamous partners. So perhaps they are being somewhat stupid or reckless...should we not fight to minimize the morbidity of this horrible disease?
