Their agent is the most potent radiosensitizer I know of... in one of the older papers I remember that it changed the α/β of a line of varying cancer cells from 5-7 to around 8-43(!). It also seems to be selectively uptaken(?) by cancer cells instead of normal cells. It's an oxide of halfnium.

If the radiosensitization was that dramatic, wouldn't you expect a higher pCR rate than 16.1%?

14/72 pts (19.4%) on RTOG 0630 had pCR

Surgery was mandated on act-in-sarc at 5 week time frame (Healthcare professional - More about ActIn Sarc | actinsarc) . 0630 allowed up to 8 weeks. Maybe that's part of the difference? Seems strange how the pCR rates are radically different between 0630 and this trial, however.

That being said, a near 20% pCR rate with standard dose pre-op RT seems incredibly high.
