Long and complicated story....US-MG only participating in the scramble. ..so most likely will have very slim pickings for anything

i was wondering if there is such thing as a 5th year of medical school (even though you have met all graduation requirements) so I can do extra electives, etc. and not just rot

if i don't match I don't want to spend a year doing non-clinical bullcrap (i.e. masters, etc.)

Honestly, as a US-MG, my guess is you can find something. E.g prelim medicine or prelim surgery. Doing that for a year may suck, but would be better overall in terms of finding a spot the year after than staying in school in my humble opinion.

Except that prelim medicine is competitive and may be hard to get

A guy at my school didn't match into some surgical sub and stayed for an additional year, and ended up matching in that field the following year.
