No "Speciality" Home Program

Hey folks !! So the school I got admitted to (still on 4 other waitlists) does not have a "home" program for the speciality I think I want to pursue (aka Ortho). I know this will make things harder for finding a good mentor and early research opportunities. I am already planning on taking a research year between M3 and M4. Anyone willing to share any other tips from their own experience. Thanks !!

It just becomes much more difficult. Aim for AOA. Find other research if there isn’t ortho research at the school. Then keep in mind that even with a research year and all the aforementioned things, you may have to also apply to a backup specialty. My low tier school this match had a few AOA members not match their surgical subspecialty of choice
