Does anyone have non teaching services in the ICU? How do your patients get moved from one service to the other or admitted to one service or the other?

We have teaching and non-teaching services. The patients generally stay on the service they are assigned to when they are admitted. The one way patients get moved is if they are readmitted and their original service is full.

We have patients that get moved from teaching to non teaching so we can admit more patients. This happens when the team cap is full but our daily admit cap is not full. This is fine by most of the residents. We have a new system where a NP admits pts that come in while we are rounding in the am and then drip to the teaching service in the afternoon. All the residents hate it and the dept doesn't seem to see the problem with it. Just wondering if it is common?
