I think I’m most nervous about starving to death afterwards since I won’t be allowed to chew for 6 weeks

Ah! So that’ll be good! I was supposed to have both my upper jaw moved forward and lower jaw moved back, but about a month before the surgery, my surgeon was playing with the reconstructive molds of my mouth and realized he could make it all work with just moving the the upper jaw forward.

The 6 week no chew diet was difficult, but for the first like week and a half post op, I didn’t want to eat, so it cut down the amount of time I was “hungry”. I won’t lie, the first week post op sucked. I woke up just about every 4 hours in pain and had to take pain meds, I couldn’t swallow pills whole, so mom was crushing them up and mixing them into shot sized portions of smoothie. You might be different, but this is what worked for me:

I definitely recommend for the first 2 weeks stocking before the surgery a mix of different liquids (preferably in small bottles), because that variety really helped. Don’t expect to drink a lot at one time. I think the first week the most I drank at one time was half of an 8 Oz bottle of white grape juice. My brother got me a 32 ounce smoothie from smoothie king and it took me a week to finish that. I had a really good support system and it ended up working well. I lost 12 pounds in the first 2 weeks (but gained them all back since being in vet school loooool)

Towards the end of the 6 weeks though, I was definitely eating all the soft foods I wanted (so much mac and cheese & potatoes) but just without chewing them. You get pretty creative.
