In a previous thread from 2002, it was noted that there are approximately 250-300 GI fellowships available/given year. Where might one find statistics or numbers regarding the number of applicants for these spots? I know its competitive, but are we talking 400 people applying or more like 700? Thanks.

I think it varies from program to program. For example, the GI fellowship here at Parkland received close to 900 applications for essentially 3 spots (there are 4 spots, but one basically goes to research track person in any given year). Other programs had more, and other had less, based on others I've spoken with.
