I am fortunate to have received an interview from NYMC...but I have one question:

Why is this school so expensive?

According to the MSAR...the avg. indebtedness is approximately $163k.

compare to avg.indebtedness for other NY med schools near NYMC:

einstein: ~ $135k
columbia: ~$100k
cornell: ~$81k
mt.sinai: $~91k
nyu: $~96k

Why is NYMC so much more expensive?

Because they know that you will pay to go there.

oooookay, the completely unintelligable previous post aside..

NYMC isn't part of the state system, for one.. on top of that, there's no one reason why school a costs more than school b. a lot of it is, as suggested above, that it's what people will pay. thank your lucky stars you aren't going to u. of colorado - 70k a year!

I think most private schools are about $37-$40k per year at this point. How much debt you go into depends on a lot of factors, though.

I am thinking about cancelling my interview at NYMC...because I simply can't fathom being in that much debt.

But...considering that I'll be in the area anyway interviewing at other east coast schools, I may just go to the interview for the heck of it.

I don't know.

But I really would not want to be in that much debt....agh.

Any input?

I should have thought about this more carefully before I completed the secondary. I"m a ******. ugh

My thoughts: Don't turn them down until you see the financial aid package...

Yep. A guy I know who attends NYMC got a sweet $20k/yr scholarship.
