hey riddlem - is the ? after UCLA because you can't make the normal revisit dates or because you just don't know when they are? UCLA's normal revisit dates are like April 17 - 19 FYI...but I think I may be going the same time as OncDoc

No official laws govern this, but I'd say 2 or 3 would be reasonable. I suppose it would depend on an individual's decision making process, enjoyment of travel, and the rigor of the current schedule. It's about finding the ONE school for you by mid-May.

As a multiple-waitlisted applicant, I would encourage you to withdraw as soon as possible from all but your top considerations. Of course, your time table won't ultimately effect the whether or not one of us gets off the waitlist; however, withdrawing in a timely manner may allow another applicant the luxury of choosing among more than one option.

I made a decision on Cornell this weekend, so I figure I don't have to go to Boston. Since I know now that I won't be attending Harvard, I thought it wouldn't be nice to have them spend money on me. That, and I figure the sooner I withdraw, the sooner somebody on the waitlist can be happy.

Dodo, yes I did get the dates mixed up. Sorry! I will see you at the Tri-I visit. I hope we can recognize each other? I want to meet you in person even if we don't get to be classmates!

Congratulations on making the decision, W. I'm sure you're experiencing a nice, calming sense of closure right now. The Tri-I (heck, Rockefeller alone) is an absolute research machine; you're likely to kick some major a$$ up there.

Thank you for your support, everyone. Yeah, it does feel nice to finally come to a decision. I know it's not a conventional decision, but it's the right one for me, and I only have to make a decision for myself. I am sure Harvard is GREAT for many other people.

Dodo, chirping - I will miss you guys at the Harvard visit, but would LOVE to see you at the Tri-I one. Hey, maybe you can decide to go to Tri-I with me too? LOL, no pressure..

And for all of you guys going to the Tri-I visit, I look forward to meeting you there!

Friday MSTP revisit--we have a morning session with current students; then you get to visit ~5 faculty you are interested in (send us their names). Lunch with current students. cocktail hour with students and admissions committee members. Dinner wtih students. A big advantage of having a single revisit day is that you get to meet some of the other students who are considering coming to UCLA (although a few can't make the date and will come on another day). Saturday is the medical school revisit, with more on med school curriculum, etc.

WaltzingMatilda and others, I'm so sorry that we won't get to meet at the Tri-I revisit. I just felt that I was overthinking this decision; I got my top-choice and alma mater, where I have been happy for nearly 4 years, and I feel I will be happiest if I stay there. Best of luck to you at Tri-I! It's a phenomenal program, but we can't go to more than one program, nor can we all go to the same program - the more's the pity. Maybe our paths will still cross in the future; science is a small world.

I look forward to meeting chirpingmobiles at the HMS revisit. :)

Congrats on making a decision Dodo and it sounds like it was the right one. Its very hard to not give in to over-thinking this decision. I'm so proud of you! (and everyone else on this forum for that matter)
