The UMass Division of Colorectal surgery is looking for a graduating college senior or someone at a different phase of training who is looking to take a gap year in their pursuit of a career in medicine. Learn about caring for patients with colorectal cancer, diverticulitis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and other lower GI disorders.

Key activities will be focused on:

Clinical/outcomes research support. Projects focus on surgical innovation, quality improvement, addressing disparities in care, and streamlining care delivery models. Our team includes surgeons, residents, medical students, nurses, biostatisticians, and industry partners. We have authored hundreds of original publications in peer reviewed journals. Program coordination. Serve as program coordinator leading a community outreach project focused on colorectal cancer prevention. Efforts will center around developing partnerships with local organizations to create programs which educate community members about the rationale and opportunity for cancer screening and early detection. Will focus on high risk and underrepresented communities to address disparities in care and outcomes. Social media management. Applicant will need to be skilled and proficient in common social media platforms including Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. Create content, enhance and maintain online presence focusing on relevant and timely topics. Expand the reach of the Division and enhance patient communication and professional connections.
Videography and editing. Comfortable in operating room environment with at least basic videographer/editing skills to obtain procedure-based videos that will be edited for research and educational endeavors. Videos will be used in research publications, social media, and teaching activities.


GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Under the direction of the assigned manager, the Graduate Intern is responsible for project-based tasks to support a designated department. These tasks may be administrative or research oriented, depending on the department. Assigned projects will require advanced analytical and communications skills. For research-based departments, the Graduate Intern will be responsible for complex laboratory tasks. Primary communications will be in a team environment within assigned department and will be focused on collecting the appropriate input for the assigned projects. Specific job responsibilities will vary by department but may include information gathering, analysis, writing, editing and/or laboratory work. This is a temporary, non-benefitted role.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Graduate school candidate
  • Related experience preferred
  • Advanced analytical and communication skills
  • Attention to detail with the ability to collect and record information from a wide variety of sources
  • Ability to use standard office tools and software (MS-Office)
  • Must be reliable and able to set consistent work hours
