I am a 3rd year dental student that cannot decide if I want to apply to Pediatric Dentistry or Orthodontics residency programs. Is it possible to apply to programs in both specialties and let fate do its thing? Is this frowned upon or straight-up not allowed? Help!

Also, if anyone has some. words of advice/encouragement, I am all ears!

TIA :)

It is possible but would probably be frowned upon mainly because the schools will question your motivation for two separate fields and probably think you aren't dedicated to either one.

It’s very uncommon to apply to both, not to mention this would be challenging during the application and expense. As stated above admissions would question why they would take you, who isn’t 100% set on either field, when there are equally qualified applicants who are sure this is the path they want to pursue.
