I'm getting mixed signals on this -- some say that penicillin is great for covering oral anaerobes; others say that penicillin is a poor choice because there are high rates of anaerobe resistance.

What do you say?

yea i think amoxicillin(in the penicillin family) is a poor choice for oral infection because it's broad spectrum antibiotic. i personally always prescribe pen vk because it's more narrow spectrum for the mouth.

Most of the dentists I've shadowed use amoxicillin as the go-to drug.
Pen VK looks good.
Is it protocol to prescribe multiple antibiotics if you want to prevent resistance?
