Just curious how different residency programs handle inpatient preops. We are relieved at 3pm daily (most of the time) and then are responsible for 2-3 (sometimes 4) inpatient preops Monday through Thursday. Some are for CRNA rooms, some for our own rooms. We also have to come in on Sundays and do them. CA-1's do most of the preops but 2's and 3's have some of their own to do as well.
What time do you end up getting out of the hospital on a typical day?

we (residents) are generally responsible for our own in-house pre-ops for the following day. this usually means 0-3 pre-ops. once you're deft at pre-ops this doesn't add much time to the end of your day - not a big deal. some months we have a resident on the "pre admissions unit" month, and they spend most of their day doing pre-ops on the floor unless the OR schedule is crazy or they ask to be in a complex case. our call team comes in at 3 pm and usually spends the first hour or so seeing any inpatient pre-ops that will be in rooms staffed by CRNA's the following day. nobody likes getting out of a room to learn they have a couple of pre-ops to do, but the system seems to work. our monday schedule is posted on friday so we do our sunday pre-ops then. any inpatient add-ons are usually covered by the weekend call team if the primary service contacts us requesting that the patient be seen in advance (i.e. the patient is a sickie and they don't want us to see them between cases on monday and say "oh hell no, not without tests A, B and C").
