From SF Match: "Please ask the letter writer to give you the letter in a signed and sealed envelope. If your letter writer is mailing the letter to you, do not open the envelope. Simply include the letter(s) with the rest of your CAS materials. "

Hey people,
It just went silent all of a sudden in here.
How are y'all doing? Did we get our applications published yet?
Anybody know how many applicants this year?
Seems like the upcoming week is the first week of interview invites....trepidation is setting in here...
PS - will anyone be at the ACS meeting in DC or PS 2013 in San Diego? It could be fun to find each other and hangout at these meetings.....
Will be submitting early this week. Waiting for SF match to post my LOR's, which they received last week. Can call SF match to find out how many applicants thus far probably?
I would think u're pretty competitive as you are, but not getting enough research is always a big drawback. I guess it all depends on what your goal is.I'm struggling with whether to apply in June and was hoping to get some advice. My goal is to be competitive for a top 5 or 10 program and my concern is whether or not this is realistic given where my application will be by next cycle. Quick rundown: went to a top 3 undergrad, middle to top tier med school, and am in a middle tier residency program with no plastic surgery residency and a very small (read: two faculty) plastics department. My board scores are 250+ (Step 3 pending). ABSITE have been around 80th. Will likely have three publications (one nonsurgical) by application time and a poster. My letters will be from a well known PD/chair, the plastics chair here who is well known in the Northeast but likely not nationally, and another Gen Surgery faculty member who I've worked closely with.
If I did not apply in June, I would finish out residency and look for a one year plastics research position. That could help me in two ways: could get me more publications and get me a letter from another plastics faculty member. The concern there, though, is if I also risk losing potential opportunity to match at a great program as more and more convert to integrated.
Thoughts? Sorry if this is beating a dead horse, but I'd really appreciate the feedback.

If you're hell-bent on matching at MD Anderson, or Harvard or something, you should aim for your perfect application. But if you're just looking for great training at a decent institution, then you can throw your hat in the ring now.
That said, I'm happy I did my research time. I would be too scared to apply now if I didn't.
Umm, I agree with statement 1.Quick questions on the CAS, just to make sure I'm not misreading stuff.
1. The USMLE transcript web page says we don't need to submit separately if we're submitting FCVS - assuming this is true for those whom FCVS has verified?
2. The APBS form says that it has to be submitted before beginning training - that means we just have to submit it after the match but before July 2015, right?
Thanks and good luck to all!

Does anyone know if UCI and USC have spots this year?
Thank you, Are you getting 47 total programs for this year? Was told that UC Irvine does not have a spot this year. Not sure about USC.

I'm seeing 47 active programs for this cycle when searching programs through SF Match. It started at 49 a few months back but Dartmouth and UPenn dropped spots.I applied to 49 programs.

Oh yeah, I forgot they dropped, too. I guess it couldn't hurt to ask? Oh the ever-shrinking number of programs... good thing only us hard-core dedicated types are willing to add 3+ years on to our training. The two programs that I applied to that are not on the active program list are USC and Medical College of Georgia at Georgia Regents University. I wonder if I can get some money back? So only 47 programs.
