Director of Volunteer Services at a hospital

Would a public health degree in administration be a necessity for this job? If not, what masters degree (if any) or other experience would give me a leg up in this career? I already have a lot of volunteer experience, but not so much supervisory experience over other volunteers. How would I go about gaining this kind of experience? Thanks.
