According to Cliffs PEP and CO2 combine to make OAA and OAA is converted to malate. This malate is shuttled to the bundle sheath and converted to pyruvate and CO2(we now have CO2).
But in CAM when malic acid(non ionized malate) is converted back into OAA, CO2 is released,why? Wouldn't OAA have to be converted into PEP and CO2 to release CO2?
