Your time and money would be better spent doing a year of rad onc research or cancer research with a good mentor. This will strengthen your application a lot. This seems like a good way to spend A LOT of money to live abroad without necessarily strengthening your rad onc application.

If it interests you - go for it. But don't do it just to boost the application - not necessary and likely would not help much. Could be a $1,000,000 mistake factoring in lost attending wages and loans, etc. so think carefully on this - especially with the personal issues at play.
 
Whoa - how did you get to the million number? For one year? You must be pulling down some serious cash in your job.

Hahahaha well the national average is right around 500 - you have to figure you'll work 2 less years - which to me should be factored at the end of the career, not straight out of residency. Just food for thought - it could easily be a 7 figure investment of lost income.
