I'm applying for family medicine, but my general surgery preceptor offered to write me a recommendation letter as he said I performed well. Would it be a waste to use this letter as 1 of my 3 or will it be viewed positively?

I forgot to ask would it be more favorable to get an additional letter from IM vs surgery?

It's the quality of the letter that matters. One of my best letters was from the chair of our OB department. Go figure.

I apparently had an excellent letter from an OB. Remember you’ll also rotate through surgical specialties less than others but surgeons willing to write a great letter would only be to the good for you.
