Residency contract says the medical malpractice is an occurrence based policy, with limits of 1.3M per, and 7M in aggregate. It also says the group policy the hospital operates under has a Tail Provision to cover claims after residency.

Does it mean that I am insured up to 7M per year in total lawsuits? Or is it 7M during entire residency?
Since it is a occurrence based policy, why is there a tail? Aren't occurrence based policies covering everything that occured during coverage regardless of claim?

Residency contracts are annual affairs.
I am no lawyer, but would expect the 7M is per contact term (ie, per year).

Why an occurrence policy would mention tail coverage though is beyond me.
