Hi, I'm applying to medical school this cycle, and coincidentally, I'm doing a masters and have a PI that's an anesthesiologist.

I was talking to him today about my interests in practicing rurally, and he's implying that I shouldn't mention wanting to practice rurally on my applications if I want to pursue anesthesiology.

I'm curious what you guys think about this? My PI is a pretty big named dude who's tenured at an Ivy League school for what it's worth, and he's older, so maybe things have changed recently. What do you guys think?

Thanks for reading.

You should not mention anesthesiology at all on your med school personal statement. Real rural anesthesiology is dead and exclusively the purview of crna's. Myself and a colleague both wanted to return to rural towns and were straight told by different CEOs that they didn't need or want anesthesiologists.
