shadowing a doc

i'm looking to do some shadowing over the summer
(ER especially) in the southern california area. the problem is that i don't personally know any docs. do u guys think that it'd be possible to just e-mail or call some docs randomly? or is that just weird? i'm an MSI by the way.

use your school
look for alumni there to shadow
check out summer programs
ask your friends or family to talk with their docs and ask if they know anyone ER docs

if all else fails then go random
