Should I do research under my university or a hospital/medical research center?

Does it make a difference? The hospital is extremely well known in its field (like Mayo, Mass Gen., Brigham, etc.).

Frankly, it won't make a difference. Might be most efficient to choose the location that has the shorter travel time.

Yeah I expected that. Plus I would imagine research done under my university would have far far less competition for opportunities to gain posters or maybe pubs.

Posters and publications are going to depend on the time it takes to complete the work and the priority your PI places on those activities and the PI's ability to identify where and when to place the papers. These days, it also helps to have the ability to bankroll meeting attendance (sometimes a registration fee is required to attend a meeting where you present your poster) and publication fees (becoming more common now for open access journals).
