Y’all can take this to PM. This thread is about Hawaii, baby!
Fine by me to keep this thread- Hawaii only.Y’all can take this to PM. This thread is about Hawaii, baby!
Facebook Island...I’m so jealous Zuckerberg bought up a huge chunk of Kauai. My daydream is to run into Priscilla at the Kauai Costco and get an invite to all that sweet sweet Facebook land.
Brian Kilmeade told me that masks only reduce risk of getting Covid 2%, and was paraphrasing Scott Gottlieb. So there is that.data showing masks reduce viral particle spread
Infectious SARS-CoV-2 in Exhaled Aerosols and Efficacy of Masks During Early Mild Infection
Background SARS-CoV-2 epidemiology implicates airborne transmission; aerosol infectiousness and impacts of masks and variants on aerosol shedding are not well understood. Methods We recruited COVID-19 cases to give blood, saliva, mid-turbinate and fomite (phone) swabs, and 30-minute breath...www.medrxiv.org
Spatiotemporal droplet dispersion measurements demonstrate face masks reduce risks from singing: results from the COvid aNd FacEmaSkS Study (CONFESS)
Background COVID-19 has restricted singing in communal worship. We sought to understand variations in droplet transmission and the impact of wearing face masks. Methods Using rapid laser planar imaging, we measured droplets while participants exhaled, said ‘hello’ or ‘snake’, sang a note or...www.medrxiv.org
Effectiveness of Face Masks in Blocking the Transmission of SARS-CoV-2: a Preliminary Evaluation of Masks Used by SARS-CoV-2-Infected Individuals
In 2019, a novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which is transmitted via airborne route, caused a new pandemic namely, “coronavirus disease 2019” (COVID-19). Although it is still debated whether the use of masks can prevent the transmission of SARS-CoV-2, no study...www.medrxiv.org
data suggesting masks reduced infections in Canada:
Face Masks, Public Policies and Slowing the Spread of COVID-19: Evidence from Canada
We estimate the impact of indoor face mask mandates and other non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPI) on COVID-19 case growth in Canada. Mask mandate introduction was staggered from mid-June to mid-August 2020 in the 34 public health regions in Ontario, Canada’s largest province by population...www.medrxiv.org
modeling showing masking reduces infection and death rate:
High-Quality Masks Reduce COVID-19 Infections and Deaths in the US
Objectives To evaluate the effectiveness of widespread adoption of masks or face coverings to reduce community transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19. Methods We created an agent-based stochastic network simulation using a variant of the standard SEIR dynamic infectious...www.medrxiv.org
study showing that 3 strong predictors for mortality are mask wearing (or lack thereof), age >80 and obesity:
Face masks, old age, and obesity explain country’s COVID-19 death rates
We tested the hypothesis that not wearing face masks, old age, and obesity can largely explain COVID-19 death rates across countries. In the regression analysis, they contributed to 61.5%, 40.5%, and 43.8%, respectively, and a model including all these variables contributed to 70.2% of the...www.medrxiv.org
wearing masks and isolating sick ppl in NH reduce infections:
Wearing masks and establishing COVID-19 areas reduces secondary attack risk in nursing homes
Background COVID-19 is spreading rapidly in nursing homes (NHs). It is urgent to evaluate the effect of infection prevention and control (IPC) measures to reduce COVID spreading. Methods We analysed COVID-19 outbreaks in 12 NH using rRT-PCR for SARS-CoV-2. We estimated secondary attack risks...www.medrxiv.org
Australia study:
The role of masks, testing and contact tracing in preventing COVID-19 resurgences: a case study from New South Wales, Australia
Objectives The early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic illustrated that SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes the disease, has the potential to spread exponentially. Therefore, as long as a substantial proportion of the population remains susceptible to infection, the potential for new epidemic waves...www.medrxiv.org
study suggesting lockdowns and mask wearing reduced numbers:
Strong impact of closing schools, closing bars and wearing masks during the COVID-19 pandemic: results from a simple and revealing analysis
Many complex mathematical and epidemiological methods have been used to model the Covid-19 pandemic. We took a different approach. Making no assumptions, we simply plotted cases, hospitalizations and deaths, on a log2 Y axis and a linear date-based X axis, and analyzed them using segmented...www.medrxiv.org
Bangladesh - mask wearing reduced infection rate in >60 age group
within this article, there is a graphic that shows 11 studies supporting mask wearing:
Effectiveness of Mask Wearing to Control Community Spread of SARS-CoV-2
This JAMA Insights CDC review summarizes accumulating evidence that mask wearing reduces spread of SARS-CoV-2 infection and that universal mandatory mask wearing policies reduce infections and deaths and emphasizes face masks are one component of pandemic control measures, including physical...jamanetwork.com
okay have to go see patients, otherwise i could do this all day...
(if you like, ill continue on the Coronavirus thread. but misinformation needs to be addressed.)
Our office is mostly libertarian physicians here in the Rocky Mountains.
We haven’t required patients to wear masks since last summer. (Once everyone in our state who wanted a vaccine had gotten one)
I haven’t worn my mask outside of an airplane since I got my second dose of the vaccine last winter.
I didnt say 'our government'. If its such a sign of oppression, please walk into a room with TB patient without a mask on.Evidence based medicine on COVID. From our government?? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Please post true statistical evidence that masks stop omicron…..the world is waiting for you to save us all, only a millennial can do that.
You were trolling when you just now commented on my post from a week ago.
Only interested in starting an argument. I know it, you know it, so don’t be surprised at my answer.
Binged that show when I was home with 'rona last yr.Watch White Lotus first. It's trash tv but it takes place right near the conference site lol
Loco moco is where it's at.thats a good reason to add at least 2-3 extra days to the trip, if you can.
i love the Big Island because of the diversity. it isnt what i would call a "beach" vacation.
you can do a day trip to the Big Island and get some of that flavor.
in terms of Maui, definitely the beaches. snorkeling maybe a tour. Mt Haleakea bike tour (have to be 12 years old)
eat a fish taco. laulau. at least 1 bowl of loco moco. shave ice.
its okay to skip the poi.
D@^^^!+, Duct! Stop thread crapping. We're going to Maui not the Big Island.best sushi i ever had was in Big Island. it was in the sushi restaurant at the Four Seasons hotel. at that time, the chef was getting his sushi from local fishermen that would bring in their "catch of the day"...
Haven’t been in 20 years but the big island was more my cup of tea. Maui was packed, but not even close to Honolulu, which was like south beach and NYC hybrid.maui is beautiful.
my 3rd favorite island (admittedly i have not been to Molokai).
if you havent been to Hawaii, it is probably the best island to start.
Maui is pretty packed but has a lot to do and feels less touristy...
Sansei up by Kapalua is excellent sushi. Mama's Fish House is a standard recommendation, and is outstanding and worth the cost. Pacifico'o in Lahaina is an excellent seafood restaurant with beachside seatingD@^^^!+, Duct! Stop thread crapping. We're going to Maui not the Big Island.
But seriously, any recs for good places on Maui are appreciated.
