hulbdo,

I believe that better is relative. Better in sense of what? It depends on what you are wanting whether it is better or not...

I've SIU is ranked higher. My friend from here wants go there. Supposedly their residency stuff is great. i haven't really done a lot research on the school but he always says it's good.

UofL's clinicals are great, and I like the city. I have heard good things about both schools, but Carbondale would not be my choice... although, I think you only stay there for ?1? yr, then off to springfield. I think, as the poster above said, that it might depend on what you are looking for in a school... specialty vs general, big school/city vs small, etc.

SIU has a way better reputation. Sure you will be in Carbondale for a year then springfield, but hey, it's still med school. Youll just be studying for the first 2 years anyway. Do it in a corn field or in a city. At least parking will be easy.

What do you base this on? Centralia reputation, or national reputation?

Hulbdo,

As an accepted applicant to SIU last year, I think you should take a look at both of the schools' matchlists. I declined my interview from Louisville, so I can't comment on that school; however, SIU's ranking in U.S. News is a Primary Care Ranking, not for Research. In addition, with their match lists and with the goals of the school, the purpose is to generate primary care physicians that serve "Southern Illinois." With that said, a large majority of the students in that school enter primary care, and only 1 or 2 each year will match into ENT, Neurosurgery, etc. If you are interested in Primary Care, then by all means, go to SIU. However, if you are not, look at Louisville and see how many specialists they generate. If you have any questions, PM me. I will be doing research at SIU this summer.

Way better is in the eye of the beholder. To tell you the truth, I didn't even know SIU had a medical school. They had a pretty decent basketball team this year though. Visit both schools and see which one you like more. Good students go to both I'm sure and good students get good residencies at both. You'll be fine. Good luck!

 If you are into poetry and literature, check out SIU's literary magazine. It's awesome!
