So confused, HELP me with spindles...

So there is a spindle with a nylon cord attached to a rod on top of it.
On the nylon cord there are two counterweights that hang and
spin as the spindle spins.
There is also a weight wound to the spindle itself which is hanging off.


Now, which of the following Don't affect the torque?
A.) Elasticity of the nylon cord
B.) mass of the attached drop-weight
C.) coiling direction of the cable on the spindle
D.) Mass of the counter weights


Could anyone help me find the answer to this with an explanation??

I believe it's the coiling direction, c.

I'm assuming anything that contributed to the tension would affect the torque in this scenario.
 
It should be D. Mass of the counter weights doesn't matter.

C. The coiling direction does matter because torque is a vector quality and the coiling direction affects which way (clockwise or counterclockwise) the object spins; therefore, it changes not the magnitude but the direction of the torque.
 
Yes that is the answer, but I also thought at first that it was C


Can you perhaps explain this to me?
I know that momentum is changed as the counterweights change... (is this right?)

But I guess momentum has nothing to do with the force applied???
