Most of us have seen the specialty decision tree for medicine (if not, here it is) and it's pretty widely accepted that certain personalities are correlated with certain specialties. I'm wondering if the same thing applies in dentistry. Obviously this is going to be purely anecdotal, but what are the general personality types of some of the dental specialties?
I don't know that many specialists, but from my experience it would seem that oral surgeons tend to be like their medical counterparts...aggressive, competitive, and outspoken. The orthodontists I know are all very outgoing, friendly, and fun to be around. The endodontists seem reserved and not very personable.
In your experience, does personality affect specialty choice in dentistry as much as it does in medicine?
