Hello! I'm a non-traditional student who has been out of school for a while. I had a Research Methods class this past year, but I really need to brush up on stats and SPSS before my first year in my PhD program. I picked up the text book Discovering Statistics using IBM SPSS Statistics http://www.amazon.com/dp/1446249182/ref=pe_175190_21431760_M3T1_ST1_dp_1

Do you have any other suggestions? YouTube classes, work books, other text books? Thanks in advance!

Ingrid

That's actually the book I would have recommended, so you're on the right track. I don't have any other book recommendations, but honestly, I wouldn't waste too much time reviewing stuff. At least in my program, we pretty much started fresh in terms of stats (e.g., we learned what a standard deviation was on the first day of class). I would personally recommend enjoying your last few months of freedom and not do any work at all--I didn't listen when I was told that, and now I truly wish that I had.

I love that book :) I took 2 stats classes in undergrad and one of the books we used is kind of old, but really goes into the concepts behind the formulas.

There is a student guide as well. A lot of my classmates found it very helpful, but I preferred the "Discovering Statistics" text as a supplement.

GOLD.

Thanks so much, everyone!

I wanted to bump this thread up. Does anyone have any additional suggestions? I'm in same boat as OP and would love to review before school!
