I understand the MOA for SSRIs, pretty straight-forward. What I do not understand is the mechanism of toxicity for "GI symptoms" caused by SSRIs. Would someone mind helping me out with this?

Thanks :)

Most SSRIs are given once a day (like fluoxetine/Prozac), so that means it's fat soluble. It will be processed by the liver by p450 enzyme, also known as cytochrome monooxygenase [World Q], and will affect any fat soluble tissue. Which would include your GI symptoms, and if they provide any other options like hepatotoxicity, CNS symptoms, etc. The testwriter can put up literally any tissue problem that's a side effect, and its your job to connect to the fact that the patient is on a long acting/fat soluble drug.
