Taking A Year Off For Research

I am a soon-to-be MS4 gearing up for the application season...

If I were to take a research year to bolster my application, are there paid positions available? I don't mind the time sacrifice, but I'm not sure how I would go a year without at least a minimal salary to begin making loan payments on debt from medical school.
