i think the reason why ppl may not be responding to this thread might be because:
1) your title is vauge
2) all these questions have been discussed in multiple threads - just do a quick SEARCH for keywords like "temple", "neighborhood" "clinical". u'll get lotsa hits.

i think they are quite selective (i'm on their waitlist ), i think the neighborhood is fine...it's no sesame street, but it's fine....i think they have a great clinical program...the school is clinically based.

u'll get lotsa mixed reviews with the neighborhood question. i mean, i think toronto's chinatown is safe...but my friend from kansas city thinks otherwise

Also, about getting wait listed, when did you apply? And do you know if they give a preference to PA residents?

I was waitlisted this year at temple as well, fruity and I are in the same boat. Man I hope were able to get off this boat. This what I got from my interview and staying there for a couple of days.

Temple- I liked temple for the following reason.

Although the school is not in a great area the city itself is rather nice. I like the historical look that philadelphia offers. Its sports heaven!

Clinical- Brian said that it wasn't a problem during the walk about, but when he sat and ate lunch with us he said that people would complain about not getting a chair. But then again its all about the person setting up his or her appointments. For instance people would try and schedule all there patients for monday-thursday but not friday. Friday=3 day holiday. So of course there is not going to be enough seats. Or they would schedule patients at convienant times like 930, 10:00 am. Where as the clinic would be busy during those times, its empty in the early morning. Now this is what brian told the interview group, take it for what it is, and who the source is, brian is the guy that sells the school. I was quite stunned when he actually admitted that there is a slight problem.

Well, like the previously comments have shown, its very well known that Temple is a very clinically based school and it shows right from the start. Ive only been here for 8 months and Ive already done a million waxups, impressions, stone models, mounting on our articulators, acrylic provisionals, Class 1/2/3/4/5 composites and amalgam restorations to death, and right now we are starting crown and bridge work.

At first, its really annoying, because I find it quite extensive and find myself in lab during my spare time, trying to catch up or learning how to get things done better and efficiently, but honestly, isnt that just gonna make me a better dentist in the future? it really sucks now, but if I look at the big picture, I appreciate it.

If you wanna specialize, there are many opportunities for that, and Temple fairs pretty well in matching. (Temple's ortho program is regarded as one of the best in the country)

So, general dentist or specialist, Temple really opens many doors for you, without closing others. During my research on choosing a dental school last year, I really never met one student or graduate from Temple that regretted going there.....sure, people have their slight beefs (admin, neighbourhood, lots of work, etc.), but they also highly appreciate that Temple trains you to become a good dentist and to more than adequately peform actual procedures that is gonna send the future kids to college one day.

Also, its the second oldest dental school in the country, so there wont be any suprises....you know exactly what you are gonna get, and there wont be any questions such as, "will i get enough patients", or "will I be adequately prepared when I graduate"....goto the school and you can see it for yourself.

As far as looking for "unbiased" information, Ill tell you this. I really dont care if you like Temple, or if you come to Temple. I dont work for Temple, and they dont pay me to say good things about them, so I can tell you that I'll tell it how it is....

also you can do what I did last year. I got emails of many seniors at Temple that were just about to graduate and asked them about their experience. I also went to dentaltown.com and asked practicing dentists who graduated from Temple about the school.......Not one of them regretted coming to Temple and every single one of them highly recommened the school to me. To me, that speaks very highly of this school....you can do the same if you want

one of my friends got a rejection letter and it said that the average stat for this year was 3.2 GPA and 18 DAT. I say temple is as competitive as NYU and BU.

hahhaah, naw, I would never work for Temple. Although I like it, after 4 years, the sight of that place is gonna make me puke and Ive only been there for 1 year.

About the email....that was crazy! I thought Tuncay was way out of line....not only did our class not have the right to see it, what business is it for you sophmores to get it?? That was way out of line and very unprofessional. Anyways, I dont wanna give out too much info, because Deets is a good buddy of mine and this incident is not my business....

Ok, the whole thing with people getting waitlisted at temple - it's because you probably didn't send brian hahn an email kissing his a$$ and telling him that temple was your #1 choice. You gotta do that to get accepted!!! There should be a sticky about this.

How do you know this
I interviewed early Feb. (my inteview went realy well) I sent an e-mail 2 days later telling him how much I loved the school and the whole thing.
I still got waitlisted...

Brian specifically told my interview group that: "if you're interviewing here, then you're good enough to get accepted. But we want to know if you really want to come here. So, if you do, send us an email telling us that." They don't want to accept people that don't want to go there for some reason. Everyone interviewing gave each other a weird look, then we all raced to write down his email address that he gave out. ridiculous!

I was an extremely strong applicant, and it took a few months to get the acceptance letter from them because i only told him that temple was : "one of my two top choices." It was a lie, i didn't want to go there, but I flew all the way down from maine just for that interview - damn strait i was gonna get accepted.

I interviewed at the end of Feb... at that point, something like 122 of 125 spots were filled. Not a whole lot an email to Brian can do at that point. Supposedly, Temple gets about half way through their waitlist... too bad they wont as of yet tell you where you stand.
