Family Of Brain Dead Bronx Boy Agrees To Stop Ventilator

NEW YORK -- The family of a brain dead Bronx boy reportedly has said it will let the 13-year-old die.
Teron Francis was on a ventilator at Montefiore Medical Center's Children's Hospital in the Bronx for more than one week. He was brought to the hospital on April 18 when a tooth infection spread and caused his brain to swell. A day later he was declared brain dead by doctors.
The family went to court to keep the boy on the ventilator, but news reports say State Supreme Court Justice Douglas McKeon met with the family Wednesday night and they agreed to have the boy removed from the machine.
The judge had ordered the hospital to keep Teron on the ventilator until his heart stopped or his family permitted him to be removed from the machine.
