Can anyone comment on the most recent set of UMO billets and how the process works? I have read quite a few threads but things seem to have changed over the years.

Thanks !

Not sure what your question is. Do you want to know about the process of applying for UMO training? After you start intern year you put together a package and it gets sent off for consideration, same idea as flight surgery. You can do this at the same time as applying for a PGY2 spot. The results for graduate medical educations/FS/UMO training selection all come out in December and you have to accept one of those or some other GMO tour. (that last one you do by calling the detailer, its kind a scramble free for all)

If you do UMO training you get sorted into either the first or second class. (July to December or January to June) If you are in the second class you usually stash at a clinic somewhere near where you did residency for six months. The training lasts about six months and at the end of it they assign you a billet. You will not know the billet list ahead of time. You can tell them what sort of considerations you have (family in an area, you really want to do ____) and they may take it into account but they may not. The billet list is the billet list and they need to fill it. The billets as a UMO are varied. There are a few that are in clinics associated with the nuclear training pipeline, some that are associated with submarine support, some with SEAL logistic support, some with EOD, some with divers, a few related to research places etc.

Thanks for your response. Yes I'm generally aware of how it works - was asking about the list of available billets for the last few classes. These used to be posted on a somewhat regular basis a few years back and I'm just curious to know if/how they have changed.

Thanks again
