Hi all,

So I'm applying a little late. I just had my primary application verified, and am in the process of setting up a committee interview. How much will my App cycle be hindered if I have everything in by mid-September?
I plan to do my secondaries w/in 2-3 days of receiving them. However, my committee letter might not be written and sent until mid-September.

A brief summary of my application looks like:

-sGPA3.75/cGPA3.83, 510 MCAT (129,127, 127, 127)
-FL resident
-First time applicant; also first time taking the MCAT

EC's listed below

-Started as a full-time HS biology teacher (graduated 1 year early from college; so I am doing this whilst applying)
-Working part-time as a pharmacy tech at CVS
-1 year of research w/ a poster presentation at an undergrad research symposium
-Founder and President of a student organization involved in tutoring/mentoring high school students
-Treasurer of a student organization catered to helping international students
-400+ hours clinical volunteering in the hospital
-40 hours of hospice volunteering
-Standardized patient volunteer
-SI (Supplemental instruction) leader/Tutor for General Chemistry and Organic chemistry.

*Also have ~50 hours of shadowing, but I accidentally forgot to list this in my activities section before submitting, and am therefore unable to change it.*
^Can anyone gauge how much the above will hurt my application? Will this screen me out at any schools?

This is my school list so far

1. Creighton

2. FIU (Florida international)

3. FAU (Florida Atlantic)

4. FSU (Florida State university)

5. George Washington

6. Medical college of Wisconsin

7. Penn state

8. Rosalind Franklin

9. UM (university of Miami)

10. University of Vermont

11. UCF (university of central Florida)

12. UF (university of Florida)

13. University of missori-colombia school of medicine

14. USF health morsani college of medicine

15. West Virginia university

16. Albany

17. Drexel

18. Eastern Virginia

19. Georgetown

20. Temple university

21. Oakland university

24. Thomas Jefferson university

25. Commonwealth medical college

26. University of Toledo

27. Tulane

Are there any schools that I should add/remove?

And of course, WAMC of getting in this cycle considering my situation?

Your Florida schools are where your best chances are. Missouri, OHSU, Toledo, Wright State accept very few non residents with your stats. You need to submit all your secondaries by late September. Even by that date 1/3 of all interviews slots have already been filled so you are competing for the remaining 2/3 .

Okay, so I'll take off Missouri, OHSU, Toledo, and Wright State.

Any schools that I can add to replace those? Such as University of South Carolina?

Any advice is appreciated

Shadowing is important. Having only a little is not so great, seemingly like you have none is bad. You have a perfectly good amount, so you just need to communicate to schools that you actually have done some shadowing and know what being a doctor is like. What you could do is a) include your shadowing on secondaries (ie, in a question about other things you want to tell the school, etc.), or b) send them an update letter.

How were you able to get clinical volunteering at the hospital?
